Raku: Art & Alchemy – A ‘live’ pottery experience with Andy Mason
Come and enjoy the Japanese art of Raku here at Sharpe’s!
With it’s roots in 16th century medieval Japan, Raku is a pottery process that inevitably brings excitement and suspense to the process of glazing and firing handmade pots.
Workshop leader Andy Mason has developed his technical skills and knowledge over many years. Alongside practical guidance, he will share his insight and inspiration derived from the ancient rituals, and contemporary practice, of Raku. He will demonstrate a variety of creative glazing methods, which integrate tradition with his individual techniques. The dramatic kiln firings follow, as your pots gradually emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku – a fusion of subtle earthy tones, metallic effects and rich deep colours.
No previous experience required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku! Each participant will be provided with three (biscuit fired) pots for the session.
