Raku Mini-Course with Andy Mason
14 October - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Raku: Art & Alchemy Mini-Course
With roots in 16th century medieval Japan, Raku is an exciting way of glazing and firing handmade pots. Andy Mason is back at Sharpes for a second visit in 2023, this time for an exciting 2-session mini-course. Students will create their own pots, then come back a week later to fire them!
Andy brings a wealth of skills and knowledge developed over many years. He’ll shares his inspiration taken from the ancient rituals, and contemporary practice, of Raku, demonstrate a variety of creative glazing methods, integrating tradition with individual techniques and lead you through the process until your pots gradually emerge from smouldering ashes to reveal a fusion of subtle earthy tones, metallic effects and rich deep colours.
No previous experience is required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku!
Booking is essential for this workshop.
